How to Distress and Age Wooden Picture Frames

I repainted this frame using the distressing technique. It was much easier than I thought, using spray paint and sand paper – it looks brilliant!

You’ll need:

Here’s how:

Step 1: Place your frame on some newspaper in a well ventilated area.

Step 2: Spray the frame with a lighter colour like beige or cream. Make sure you also cover the sides and allow to dry.

Step 3: Spray the frame and the sides with a layer of maroon and allow to dry thoroughly.

Step 4:  Sand the frame until you get the level of distress you want. Start gently working in one direction then sand harder around the edges. This is how mine turned out, but every frame will look different – that’s the beauty of it!
