Silhouette pictures are lovely. They just add some mystery because of the lack of detail. You can be creative when it comes to making silhouettes, but this is an easy project that will get you started. I made a silhouette of a cat because, well, I like cats. Hang ’em up, give ’em away or even use ’em as regular serving plates! Guests will be so intrigued! You don’t have to be an artist – nursery school tracing skills are all that’s required! Have fun!
Step 1: Place your image flat on your work space. Place the plate face down over the silhouette until the spacing is correct.
Step 2: Trace the image onto the back of the plate with the black marker.
Step 3: Use the paintbrush to fill in the tracing with the black acrylic paint. Allow to dry between several coats.
Step 4: Hold the plate up to the light to check if you’ve missed any spots.
Step 5: Once the paint has dried, spray the back of the plate with the lighter colour spray paint. (You can use the same colour as your wall)
Step 6: After the paint is dry, apply 3 coats of Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish to the back of the plate, letting it dry at least a half hour between coats.
Use a plate hanger (available at most hardware stores) to hang your silhouette plate, or use it for pasta.
