DIY Folded CD Cover

This is a tried and tested guide to making your own folded CD covers with scrapbook paper. A “mix tape” makes for an affordable and very cool DIY wedding favour – one that people will actually use.

What you’ll need:

Here’s how:

Step 1: Draw a 5 x 5 inch (127 mm x 127 mm) square in the middle of the page, the decorative side face down. It will be slightly larger than the CD.

Step 2: Mark 2.5 inches (64 mm) outwards from the center of each side of the square. This is how far each fold will extend.  Align the top of the curve of a CD to each mark and trace a curve from corner to corner.

Step 3: There will be a slight gap from the edge of the CD to each corner (since the square is slightly larger than the CD).  Just sketch a smooth curve to the corner.

Step 4:  Your paper will now have four semi circles or ‘petals’ around the square. Use the following template as a guide.

Step 5:  Cut out your case. Trace the template on other sheets of card-stock if you are making multiple CD cases.

Step 6:  Fold up the edges and place your CD inside.

Step 7: Overlap one side of each edge over the next to close the case.

Step 8: Secure with a ribbon, string or sticker.

Have fun creating your own personalised CD cover! Make it unique by adding pretty tags and embellishments. I made these covers for students when I photographed their senior prom. I rummaged through my scrapbook supplies to find paper and embellishments to suit the look of the shoot.
