The Best Way to Remove Labels from Glass Bottles

remove labels from glass

Most of our wedding decor was, of course, DIY inspired, which saved some money and made the day more personal. But making your own wedding decor is very time consuming and we spent hours trying to figure out the easiest and most effective way of removing labels from wine bottles. After trial and error (and a lot of whining – yes, pun intended) we finally nailed it. So I give to you my short version and best way to get those sticky labels and glue off of glass bottles.

You’ll need:

Here’s how:

Step 1: Fill the sink with very hot water and some dish washing liquid. Place the bottles in the water so that they will be filled with water and completely covered.

Step 2: Allow the bottles to soak for between 8 and 24 hours. Some labels will come right off and others will take longer to soak.

Step 4: Use a paint scraper to scrape the label and the glue off of the bottle.

Step 5: Most labels should peel right off but some might still have glue residue. Apply some hairspray or acetone onto where the glue is stuck and scrape the glue off. Repeat until all the glue is removed.
